Winter is here folks,
we all need to gear up appropriately for the cold weather – be it at home, abroad on a ski trip,
and anywhere really.
This goal in mind, we took the liberty to compile a list of the best thermal socks in market,
our results are below – check them out !
The Ultimate Thermal Socks Guide Chart
I live in the Interior of the grand State of Alaska… gets pretty chilly here so we always look for winter products to perform as they say. These are awesome and at such an incredible price. These eco-friendly, cost-effective products hold up just as well (or even better) of some of the BIG NAME thermal products I have spent mega dollars on. I recommend these highly for cold-climate wear that is easy on your budget.
I buy these for my husband. He’s a Railroad Freight Conductor and requires a good, and long-lasting (durable), sock.
They are excellent for Spring and Autumn weather only. With only 17% Wool, they keep the chill off one’s feet, but will not keep that ‘cold-to-the-bone’ at bay. For that, you need to get the Carhartt ‘Arctic’ socks, (37% Wool)*** (See ‘EDIT’ below).
- LENGTH & DURABILITY
They are ‘Boot Length’, (which means ‘just-over-the-calf’), Wear well, and Wash well. No pilling. And, being just-over-the-calf, they stay up… which is good news for boot wearers.
The Sizing was a bit of a problem. My husband wears a 10 1/2 boot, so, you would think he’d take the large-size sock that supposedly fits a 10-12 shoe. Wrong. We found that the socks were too tight both in the feet and in the calf, and sent them back in exchange for the Extra-Large, (fitting shoe size 12-15), and those fit him perfectly. No tightness whatsoever… just a very nice fit that gives good support as well.
- THE ‘FEEL’
They have no Toe-seams, are totally Re-inforced, and are so Soft & Cushy in the Toe and Heel. He says he even feels support in his Arch… a good thing for a man who is setting out cars and walking those tracks at all hours of the day and night.
My husband is very pleased with these socks, and so am I. It seemed to take forever to find the right kind of sock for him– Weather-wise, Fit-wise, and Quality-wise; but after many trials and errors, we finally found his ‘holy grail’ of Spring/Autumn-weather work socks.
Go get ’em… you’ll be glad you did.
***EDIT: DECEMBER 8-2011: I just found these other Carhartt socks, ‘Carhartt Men’s Artic Wool Heavy Boot Socks’. With 87% Wool, my husband says these are the bomb for Winter Weather, far exceeding the 37% Wool of the ‘Carhartt Extremes Wool Arctic Boot Sock’ I mentioned above. Take as look… Carhartt Men’s Artic Wool Heavy Boot Socks

My feet always get very cold in the winter. I even purchased electric booties to warm up my feet when they get painfully cold. Since I purchased Heat Holders I have not had to resort to the electric booties. These sock’s warmth exceeded my expectations. On outside they look like regular socks, on the inside they have a very thick plush pile. In attached video I show the outside and the inside of a sock.
✔ The socks material content is 91% Acrylic, 5% Nyln, 3% Polyester, 1% Elastane.
✔ The socks are fairly color fast. I did the first wash by hand to see if they will bleed indigo blue, but they did not. The discoloration of water was minimal.
✔ The socks are fairly thick, so they may not fit into tight slippers/shoes/boots.
✔ The sizes run large. My shoe size is 7. I purchased Women 5-9. By the end of the day the sock stretches out and the sock heel is no longer in the right place. But they are so warm that I don’t care where the heel is, I bought several more pairs.
It has to be noted that my first experience with purchasing Heat Holder socks was not good – they arrived with a hole visible even before I opened the packaging. When I attempted to issue an Amazon return for the first pair, it was marked as non-returnable item. However a chat with Amazon representative and the fact that the socks were still in original packaging got me a return label. If the Amazon return does not work for some reason, another option is to contact customer service directly at Heat Holders web site, the web site name is included on the back of the packaging.
My feet are very happy in these socks. Since my original purchase I ordered 2 more pairs. I now own black, grey, and blue. Also note that all three colors are color fast. I recommend Heat Holders.

I’ve been wearing the same pair of Red Wing boots for well over a year now, and while the boots themselves are still on decent condition, they have no insulation, and the leather has cracked and torn over the years, making my feet even more vulnerable to the cold. For this winter I decided to purchase a pair of wool thermal socks, and I settled on these because Dickies is a good brand ,and the price was very low.
I bought 2 pairs, and I’ve been wearing them for my everyday socks since then! They are warm when the weather is cold, but don’t stifle my feet when things are warmer, and they are very comfortable and soft.
Excellent socks that I would definitely recommend.
First a little background. My feet are in horrible shape. They crack. They bleed. They itch. They smell horrible. Two of my toenails have fungus. I’ve been fighting all of these things for over a year and not once have I thought that maybe wearing cheap hanes socks might have something to do with it. I use anti fungal and anti bacterial soap when showering. I’ve tried creams, powders, lotions, soaking my feet in a foot bath, but don’t have the time to maintain these treatments 2 times a day as directed unfortunately. Walking on carpet barefoot is unbearably painful because of the horrible shape my feet are in. I’m also very stubborn about going to doctors about this kind of thing so I wanted to try everything I could first before seeing a podiatrist.
I’ve googled and googled foot care over and over and I thought to myself, “Well my socks are cotton. They shouldn’t have anything to do with it.” Finally, after trying a ton of other medicines, soaps, soaks, etc, I thought I’d give wool socks a try. Here’s what I have to say about People Socks:
I have a size 12 foot on the wide side and these socks fit my feet perfectly. They are the most comfortable socks I’ve ever worn. I could tell the second I put them on that I would be happy with them. My feet do not sweat whatsoever in these socks and my feet have a tendency to sweat even when I’m sitting down doing nothing that involves a lot of walking or running when wearing cheap hanes socks. The tops of the shoes I wear daily are made of mesh, and when it rained here yesterday, I found myself walking through large puddles of water that would normally soak my feet and leave them cold. With these socks on my feet stayed completely dry, they felt a little cold as if water was trying to get in, but my feet stayed bone dry. I couldn’t believe it. Also the pain in my feet has gone away. The itching has stopped. The cracking has reduced and my feet and shoes do not smell like a horrible bowel movement.
All of this has occurred in the TWO DAYS I have worn these socks. I cannot believe the change in my foot condition just from wearing wool socks. This being said, I cannot recommend these socks enough. whether it be for work, or heavy activity, or just every day lounging, these socks have blown me away.
My daughter goes through her socks like there’s no tomorrow! She constantly has holes! I had to find socks that were thick enough to withstand her feet longer than a week! The socks arrived quickly and I was impressed with how thick they were! They came in a variety of cute colors at a great ankle length. I gave these to her back in April, and I am happy to report that it is now August, and no holes!! Yay! They are a little on the pricey side, but totally worth the investment. In the long run, this will actually save me money. I will definitely purchase again!
These socks are so incredibly warm. I like the design and the colors in all of the ones that I received. These are nice and thick without having any type of itchy wool feeling. They are very soft and the rouched top helps keep them up even in boots. I am a size 7 and have also given a pair to my mother in law who wears a 9 and they fit both of us just fine because there is some stretch to them. The socks are great quality and made extremely well. I washed these in cold water with my other socks and under garments and dried them on low in the dryer and they came out perfect. They come folded individually as pictured so would even be a great stocking stuffer or add on gift for a girl in your life. Very cool socks, super comfortable and very impressed with quality. I received this product in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
My 2 daughter-in-laws love them–nice and warm!!
